Today A Gift Arrived at My Doorstep

Today there was a brown box leaned up against my door. The first thing I noticed was it was not from Amazon. It was from my friend Rhonda. I ran to the miscellaneous drawer, pulled out a pair of scissors and ran the blade down the center seam of tape. Inside the box between plastic air cushions was a beautiful painted sign which read “Pray Big.” My heart leapt. I received a freelance gift (not attached an occasion) and it represented me. A happy dance followed then placement on my kitchen altar. With my heart freshly bursting, I text Rhonda, but this feeling was SO full I wanted to share it with everyone. I opened Facebook and posted the photo. Comments started rolling in and my friend Heather said “I like the sign behind it.” The sign behind it reads “I want someone to spend my life with who will leave me alone most of the time.” This too was a freelance gift from a friend. Glenda saw...

Ingredients for Mastery

This summer I returned to the Pacific Northwest to dodge the sun and attend a week of what I affectionately call “writer’s camp.” On both sides of this literary week, I stay with friends in their homes. One’s teenage daughter is an aspiring writer. Although I have yet to read her work, I imagine she is quite good as she loves stories. She spends her days watching television and reading immersed subconsciously in it construction. She saves her writing questions for when I come to town. My body now knows how to gauge questions telling the difference between questions of curiosity, questions of tactic and questions of weight. She began with curiosity: what do you do at writer’s camp? Moving then toward tactic — how do you pick a publisher and what does an agent do? And the question of weight was loaded with vulnerability: which genre has the least rejection? There it was hanging in the room. She wanted to write in part to hide. Our conversation wasn’t...

Quick Affirmation for Leaving Behind the Old

I have a new affirmation — feel free to borrow it. I am using it often now and the power of it is incredible. Ready? Say it out loud as you read this and FEEL the energy of it as you speak it … “That was so yesterday.” A friend called me, she wanted to know if I’d heard anything on the condo I’d put an offer on almost six weeks ago. I have experienced bouts of anxiety with the wait. My response to her was, “no news, and the anxiety surrounding it was so yesterday.” Laughing loudly she said, “I’m going to use that.” A client had a long history of making herself frustrated. She could take a little speck and very quickly turn it into a boulder. We dissected her pattern together and then found ways to reorganize her thoughts and actions to align with her new intention. I said her pattern “was so yesterday,” and her face lit up as she said, “you’re right! I’m different...

Meditation Monday: My Life NOW

I am at times called into deep contemplation and prayer for a day. Today is such a day. As I have taken my prayer seat in my prayer chair to begin the process, I have asked my inner guidance for today’s meditation to clear the energy around me and within me that has impeded my ability to know the Allness of God. The meditation that bubbled to the top for the day is repeating the following words of Truth and feeling them in my body: There is One Life and that is the Life of God and it is my life NOW. This contemplation isn’t new to me. I’ve spoken it for decades, but today, the energy of it is vibrant and light and lifts my Soul and cracks my heart wide open. What I know is the Presence is within me. Jesus and all of the great teachers say this, and I have been blessed to know it on occasion, as well. I also know that I...

A New Year, A New Theme

What is your theme for 2012? Every year I choose a theme for the new year.  Why?  It becomes my year’s anchor and guide.  Instead of waddling through a year, I have purpose.  At the completion of the next year, God-willing, I can look back through a lens and see my life with a given perspective. My themes usually are about calling forth an inner quality of being.  In 2009, my theme was Self Care.  2010 I was “birthing my Soul.” 2011 was different as my focus was on a skill or profession.  I was cultivating The Writer.  To do this, I became a member, then secretary, of the Phoenix Writer’s Club.  I could be found in writer’s workshops, such as Stella Pope Duarte’s workshop Drawing Down the Muse.  Or at Paradise Valley Community College taking a creative writing or magazine article writing class.  As a guest writer for a local blog, I wrote weekly about the Soul for liwi.com.  I started my own blog soulfulresources.com which then turned...
