Hello Summer

My feet look forward to touching the floor in the morning as they are aware that they don’t have to put on socks and shoes. Sometimes flip flops or sandals, but mostly bare feet. Naked, bare, raw feet on mother earth. And, they are happy. After being confined for month after month, season after season my feet are singing a song of freedom. I oblige them. No need for extra. No need for burden.

This past week it rained several days so my lawn is verdant and the blades are long. I feel so much when my feet are engulfed in the green stuff. Energetically I know there is an energy exchange and I am being renewed. Grounding has always been an important part of the spiritual experience. It takes the High vibration merging it with the solid and assisting in integration. Grounding is now called “earthing” becoming a health movement.

Benefits of earthing include but are not limited to:

Connection with the earth. Many spiritual traditions teach that nature is one of our greatest teachers, reminding us that we are not separate from creation but an integral part of it. In moments of stress, fear, or uncertainty, grounding can help us reconnect with a sense of peace, stability, and belonging.

Stress reduction. I’ve heard the word “stress” my entire life and I have finally gotten it. When by body perceives “stress” as an enemy by body responds with inflammation and a lower quality of life. However, reducing or embracing this perception with love/appreciation can timprove sleep quality, support healthy circulation, and decrease inflammation. Earthing helps in this. There is something about touching and experiencing nature which cultivates feelings of calm.

Nervous system regulation. As part of the stress conversation above, grounding encourages the nervous system to shift from a state of chronic stress into one of relaxation and restoration. In a world where many of us spend hours indoors and connected to technology, even a few minutes of intentional contact with the Earth can be refreshing and restorative.

Numinous Experience. Beyond its physical benefits, grounding can become a sacred spiritual practice. As your feet touch the earth, you may imagine releasing worry, tension, and fear into the ground while drawing in strength, wisdom, and renewal. The Earth offers a powerful metaphor for spiritual growth: just as trees remain rooted while reaching toward the sky, we too can stay grounded in the present while opening ourselves to higher possibilities. Grounding reminds us that spiritual awakening is not about escaping the world but about being fully present within it—connected to ourselves, one another, and the living Earth that supports us all.

And the sunshine. Can I get an “amen” for the sun. Living in the Pacific Northwest sun becomes a treat, not a given. As a child we spent early mornings to late at night running, biking, and playing around the neighborhood in the sun. People called in sick to work to take in this magic power. Research now shows the sun provides vitamin D, strengthens bone health, improves mood and sleep, assists with blood pressure regulation and more. It’s not surprising that the Universe exists to support the function of living.

My friends are talking about concerts, camping, travel, creating so much more vitality in the summer.

As I welcome in summer I invite you to join me in relishing all of its mysterious powers and to lap it up with abandon.

Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”
