Who Are You?
Yesterday I spoke at a church and the scripture was about Jesus’ baptism. John the Baptist facilitated the baptism. At the time Jesus’ Jewish name was Yesua ben Joseph. This means “Joshua, son of Joseph” signifying his paternal human lineage/ancestry. (As a side note, Jesus got this name “Jesus” when the scriptures were translated into Greek). Baptism for the Jews was not about “cleansing” but was about repentance. Repenting literally is about turning toward a new direction. The river Jordan he was baptized in is seen as a “liminal” state where in scripture a lot of “between” happens. The river represents the boundary of the old on one side and the beginning of the new on the other side of the river bank. It was through the Jordan river the Isrealites walked to get to the Promised Land. Elijah crossed the river into heaven and handed his reign to Elisha on the other side, demonstrating a new spiritual era. The Syrian commander Naaman cleansed himself of leprosy entering the river sick and leaving the river whole. So when Jesus is baptized in the Jordan, we know transformation or revealing is going to happen.
Once Jesus is baptized the heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove upon him, and God says, “you are my son, in who I am well pleased.” Yes, this is the first time in the Bible Jesus is referred to as the son of God, after the repentance or turning away from the human state and aligning with the Divine.
From this scripture I could see that we have two choices: the lineages of mankind and the lineage of The Divine. The turning away from the limited mind of man (repentance) into the heart of God results in a different way of being on this planet. When I speak of human I am referring to a belief structure limited to only the tangible sensory information. Believing in what can be seen, touched, smelled, heard and tasted. I believe that being human is VERY Holy. There is ONLY Holy, only the Divine Presence in the form and without form. The lesson, then, is where we choose to state our beginning point. Do we claim to be of God or claim to be solely flesh and blood?
Jesus went from Yesua ben Joseph, to Jesus, son of God. I can choose if I am Bonnie of the Barnard clan exclusively OR Bonnie, daughter of God who was born into the Barnard clan. This past week I have meditated on this concept. Who am I at the core of my being? How does this influence how I show up in the world?
Waking up to our Divine Heritage means we wake up to our Infinite Self, our Eternal Self, and relate to a vast Field of High Vibrating Good as our home base. Being this place in consciousness opens the heaven for Spirit to descend, and to recognize our Divine inheritance (daughter/sonship). Once awake we treat each other from a place of Holiness which looks a lot like the Buddhist monks taking their Peace walk greeting fellow Americans with the recognition that the power of Peace is within each of us.
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Buddhists Monk walk the United States for Peace. They are halfway to their end destination of Washington DC and they are weary. One monk lost his leg. The others are battered quite significantly and they carry on. My prayers today are with these monks grateful they are doing the Holy work of reminding us to forgive and to love. I am holding the High Watch seeing their Peace Walk come to fruition.
My love to you. May you see your impact, know your love, and feel your prosperity. Blessings.
