Contemplating Spiritual Lessons from Football (Again)
Friends, I was watching the Seahawks game this past Sunday. As I listened to the commentators speak I thought to myself, “this is so much like life,” many people dissect each and every move in their lives (or in others) trying to predict outcomes based upon past precedent. It is also like how our brain’s function where we have neuro network grooves in place until we change our thoughts and behaviors and then the physical brain makes new networks.
BUT, in football, as in our lives, the game isn’t over until it’s over and EVERY play has an opportunity for a miracle. Yep, miracles happen all of the time. And every moment of our life is ripe for a miraculous intervention. It got me asking myself how often I show up multi-dimensionally, fully present, calling in the Invisible Realm to support and assist me…making themselves known to me.
I’m also aware how dedicated the football players are to their practice. I ask myself about my diligence to my spiritual practice. It reminds me of what Marianne Williamson said decades ago. It was something like, a love warrior need to have as much commitment to their practice of love as military warriors have to fighting out of their foxholes. It is with our daily spiritual practices (study, prayer, meditation, giving, service) and acting from them in community that creates the Spiritual Love Warrior energy.
Then I returned my attention to the game. In one play the Tennessee Titan’s got the ball and made a touchdown. The game changed in one ten second moment. This happens to us. Circumstances impact our life, shaking it up. It could be receiving a financial windfall, a health challenge healed, the birth of a baby, the death of a loved one, kindness from a stranger, a felt prayer, a marriage, a divorce, so much happens in ten seconds.
I notice in the game how the energy shifts from team to team based upon plays, calls, and crowd involvement. Energy in football is like in life…it is everything. Our ability to maintain our Energy Field regardless of circumstance is the spiritual touchdown. This, comes through practice, Faith, and embodiment.
These insights reinvigorated me. In the Bible we are told to “ask” in order to receive (and I believe our Soul is doing this without our mouth needing to move). Every angel expert will tell you that angels don’t get activated without our asking. So I’ve decided my new quarterback throw will be “the ask.” In my journal and prayers each day I will ask. I used to write love letters to God. I also have done lists and lists of gratitudes (still do), lists of wants, and now I’m going to ask. My Soul is excited about this, too.
So my Sunday football take away is:
the game isn’t over until the clock says it is
each play impacts the game
practice is necessary
Energy is everything
every moment has the potential for a miracle
Asking is the direction I throw the football.
