God’s Business and My Business

Byron Katie has long said there is my business, your business and God’s business. The problem comes when we get confused about whose business we are in. Of course we are to stay in our lane. We are to literally “mind our business.”

So, I am renting out my home out through Furnished Finders. I am wanting an individual, couple or family with no pets. The longer the rental the better. Then, the fire happens in Spokane. My house has a large demand. Insurance companies and corporate businesses are wanting to put their people into my home. Then things start to get confusing in my head. Lots of details. Lots of considerations. Balancing my needs and those of the renters. I want to do God’s business. I want things in my timing (God’s business), I want things my way (one call at a time spaced apart to process), I am wanting getting tired of the paperwork that comes with each request and not wanting to do it (their business), and I’ve started doubting…OH NO!! Prayer in reverse. So these past three days I have been deep breathing and reminding myself that I am to do what is next while trusting the Universe is picking the perfect right person or combination of people to live in my home. Easier said than done.

Feeling good is important so I take myself to the pool. I kick, I contemplate, and I have a conversation with my Higher Self. I ask for support in turning over the big stuff and I keep kicking. I shower then go to a tarot card reading class. I learn about the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major is God’s business. I can’t change it!! The Minor Arcana is about me and how I show up. As we practice reading cards another student says “so we don’t meddle in the Major and pay attention to our role in the Minor?” The message couldn’t have been more perfect for me.

I return home to a pile of messages. Lots of families have pets. Some just want to rent for one or two months while there are other requests for a year. A fire victim calls me directly begging for my home for one month. I get quiet. I am clear. I would like a no pet situation and rental for one year. I then start begging God to know who to pick and I know I’m attached. Is it bad to have a pet in the house when I don’t want one but a needy family is pulling at my heart strings? How do I make this decision? Offers come in. All with pets. Do I hold out or keep going? It is rough call. I need to get quiet. I trust I will “feel” the right next move. I decide a small dog with additional rent could work.

Prayer becomes about Trust and Right Action along with knowing that all families who lost their homes are taken care of. I can let go. The conversation with The Divine and the process continues. I breathe and head back to the pool.

I can find only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours, and God’s. For me, the word God means “reality.” Reality is God, because it rules. Anything that’s out of my control, your control, and everyone else’s control — I call that God’s business.

“Much of our stress comes from mentally living out of our own business. When I think, “You need to get a job, I want you to be happy, you should be on time, you need to take better care of yourself,” I am in your business. When I’m worried about earthquakes, floods, war, or when I will die, I am in God’s business. If I am mentally in your business or in God’s business, the effect is separation.” Byron Katie
