Letting Yourself Go

Dear Friends,

There is a Country Western song by George Strait that I have on my iPhone as I get a kick out of it every time I hear it. It’s called “She let herself go.”

Chances are you’ve heard it. YouTube shows close to 4 million viewings. The lyrics begin with Strait singing about breaking up with his wife:

“He wondered how she’d take it when he said goodbye
Thought she might do some cryin’ lose some sleep at night
But he had no idea, when he hit the road
That without him in her life, she’d let herself go…”

Then, the song takes a turn to say that she let herself go … and as the listener you are thinking her life fell apart until the verse continues as a play on the words “letting go.” Instead of a response embedded in pain; the wife sees the shift as a form of freedom. With him gone, she was able to do all the things she wanted to do …

she let her self go to Vegas, Hollywood, bought a new car, went on a date, went to the beach, a singles cruise”

And this is how people connected with the Presence and Power of God behave. We are different in many ways than the typical human, as when we know that EVERYTHING works together for our good … we are free. We are free to feel awful (or not), experience a heartbreak, and let ourselves go into a new life of Freedom.

And, that’s where I went.

I had a rough, rough patch in 2018 and I knew I had to “make Joy” in my life if I wanted 2019 to be different. So I let myself go … I went to Reiki Training, Herbal School, and to Scotland.

My Soul needed this. I needed to remind myself of who I am and what I resonate with. Shamans perform Soul Retrievals as a way of bringing back pieces of someone’s life that they left behind due to trauma or survival. They support an individual in gathering their pieces back to themselves. And, I did this for myself.

I took myself alone to Scotland because I had never been and I needed an adventure. I needed to remind myself of how capable I am to navigate streets I hadn’t walked on, money I wasn’t familiar with, and engage with people I didn’t know. I desired Trusting the Universe that it had my back and I could lean into the Unknown. I wanted history, culture, beauty. And I got it all. PLUS, I went to meditate with Dr. Joe Dispenza and 2,000 people from 54 countries which brought immense Joy to my being.

Doesn’t it sound refreshing to let yourself go? There are so many ways to refresh oneself. If you have forgotten how, ask a friend who knows you real well. They are powerful angels in reminding us who we are.
