Meditation: The Super Power Available to Us All

There are five practices recognized by all major religions as essential toward living a spiritual life: meditation, prayer, tithing/giving, spiritual community, and study. In my last post I wrote about my evolving experience with prayer. Today I want to talk about one of my most FAVORITE things in the world: meditation. My most practiced form of meditation is silence. Each morning for the past twenty five plus years I have “sat” in silence bathing myself in meditation. I begin by closing my eyes, taking a big deep breath and then placing my attention on my feet. I acknowledge and feel the ground beneath my feet as a form of grounding. I sometimes say something like, “this ground is holy,” or “I am so grateful for feeling my feet,” or “the Light of God fills me from head to toe and is pooled at my feet right now.” Once I experience my awareness directed through my attention I am ready to go. As I enter into the meat of...

Letting Your Spirit Self Sooth You in 2022

Happy 2022. I feel now more than ever that we are in This Thing Called Life together. Responsible to our own Spirit Self for our unfolding AND co-creating with The Only Thing That Is to bring forth the world we imagine. I don’t need to tell you that our systems are falling part, we are two years into a pandemic looking at what and who we consider to be “essential” in our lives, and the collective invitation for NEW sits in our laps this month. Now, more than ever, my Faith drives the car. It must. In the midst of incredible change, Faith is what I hold onto and live out of. Each year I choose a word or phrase for the year I am meeting. This year it is “Trusting the Flow.” Covid has been a party to revealing to me where my perception has been rigid and what I have been holding onto. I started noticing my fascination with flow, movement, shift. Yet to notice and to...

I’m All Lit Up Like a Christmas Tree

Does your curiosity ever become so dogged that like a dog with a bone you just won’t let it go? I have two of those going on right now. One is The Flow. I can’t stop reading about, meditating on, feeling into, and celebrating The Flow. It is as though it is new to me. My response to it is consumption. I want to linger around it, take it in, read about it, talk about it. It is a fixation of sorts. The second is my curiosity about my nervous system. My nervous system seems to be how I organize my life nowadays. I am obsessed with looking at pictures of it every day. I think the system is beautiful. It is our electric system delivering intelligence throughout our body system. Photos of the system remind me of a Christmas tree, as though you and I are walking trees with our lights on the inside. And information is disseminated in what looks like little bursts. Imagine my brain, or...

Now What? Being with Internal Chaos

Sunday night I had a friend over for dinner and at 9:30 pm as we were sitting on the couch listening to jazz on the local public radio station, the phone rang. It was his parents informing him that he would have to spend the night wherever he was as there was a curfew in place. We couldn’t believe it. We turned on my computer to see that Phoenix was ablaze with conflict, anger, and firey objects. My body seized up a bit. I had many different sensations running through it and if I gave them emotional names I’d call them fear, sadness, concern, consternation, loss, and much more. Our country is in the midst of change. And although it needs it and I want it, I can be uncomfortable with the way it is ushered forward. Yet this is a collective experience and it shows up in many different ways and on many different levels, including the physical. The spiritual invitation is to accept what is and Love...

What is Resurrecting Within You?

May your Easter reveal the message of resurrection within your Soul and may you become made new. Our Jewish brothers and sisters celebrated Passover this week. During the seder meal they asked the question: “What makes this night different from all nights?” This question is one of one renewal. We could stop at any moment of our day to ask “what makes this moment unique, alive, vibrant?” We could ask where life is at this moment in the context of our circumstances. Life is ALWAYS present. This practice is what many of us are doing at this moment of quarantine. Quantum physics would have us ponder the questions, “what is wanting to emerge here?” Looking at the edges of the outer world and the center of the inner world is a mystical practice of co-creation. What is wanting to emerge. Let me give you an example. Wednesday night I heard on the news that one person was dying every 45 seconds in America (on Wednesday). I stopped and...

Gratitude’s Generative Power

When my seven year old granddaughter is grateful, she jumps up and down, screeching inaudible noises while clapping her hands. Everyone around her knows she is grateful. Her auric field is on high alert of an energy akin to star twinkles mixed with chocolate candy Kisses. She is all in. And yet her gratitude, at age 7, is contingent on something tangible. Her grandmother is coming to town. The two of us are going on a date to see the latest kid movie while sharing popcorn in seats that recline. Or, she is getting a toy she REALLY, REALLY wants. And yet the spiritual journey invites us to be grateful regardless of condition. After a crappy diagnosis we didn’t want to receive. After losing a job we worked so hard to get. After a check or two or three bounced. And yet when things aren’t seemingly going our way, we can experience dejection and want to go to bed. Oprah tells a story of phoning Maya Angelou over...
